Today we met the drilling team Bitek, Patrick, Simon, Cosmos and Meddy. What an amazing group of men! I will spend the rest of my life aspiring to be the men that they are. Everything they do begins and ends with Jesus. They begin and end their day in prayer giving thanks to God for everything. We also got to experience them getting down to water today for the first time on a bore hole. I noticed I took a lot of great video today, which I can't upload on this blog but will share later. I'll try to get more pictures tomorrow. Anyhow back to the drillers...we got to sit with them and learn about them. They were interested in relationships between men and women in America. Brock taught the single drillers what dating is like and I taught them about our marriage traditions. Beyond learning their stories and their desires, we got to have some fun with them teaching them how to play tic tac toe, rock paper scissors and thumb wrestling. They were especially intrigued by tic tac toe. I got to play Meddy and he won. They also plan to use rock paper scissors to decide who has to do the jobs none of them want to do and they know if you lose you're supposed to negotiate for best out of three.
Now to the children. I must say I've never seen such joy in my life. The children smile constantly at Mzungus and laugh at everything we do. I found myself most of the day chasing them, which they love. At first they were scared to touch us but by the end they were fist bumping and high fiving like champs! There aren't enough words to describe my love for the kids.
Overall today the theme that strikes home is joy. The people of Uganda have taught me more about Joy than ever. The drillers are full of joy, the children full of joy, the elders full of joy, especially Valentine, and now...I am full of joy thanks to my new friends in Uganda! I'm forever thankful for this place in my heart that is touched that I never knew about.
This blog's initial purpose is to document my co-worker, Brock, and I's preparation, travel and experience to Uganda, Africa. We are traveling with the Water4 organization and being sponsored by Bank2. To learn more about Water4 please visit www.water4.org. To learn more about Bank2 please visit www.bank2online.com.
